Meet Your Instructor
Professional. Patient. Safety-Focused Driver Education for Vermont Teens.
Driver education isn’t just a course — it’s an important step towards independence, responsibility, and lifelong safe driving habits.
I founded VT Drivers Ed to provide a calm, structured, and supportive learning environment where teenagers can build confidence behind the wheel while developing safe decision-making skills that last far beyond the road test.
As both an educator and a parent, I understand that learning to drive can feel exciting, stressful, and sometimes overwhelming - for students and families alike. My goal is to make the process clear, predictable, and supportive from the first class to the final drive.
Hi, I’m Tom Varnham
I am a Design & Technology teacher at Essex High School, where I work with teenagers every day, helping them develop practical skills, confidence, and independence through hands-on learning.
Years of teaching adolescents have shaped how I approach driver education:
Clear, step-by-step instruction
Patient coaching and encouragement
Consistent expectations
A strong focus on safety and responsibility
My experience working with teens allows me to meet students where they are — whether they feel excited, nervous, or completely new to driving.
My Background
My Approach to
Driver Education
Learning to drive can feel overwhelming for both students and parents. Instruction is designed to make the process:
Structured
Predictable
Supportive
Students are prepared not only for the Vermont road test but to become safe, thoughtful drivers for life.
Small Classes. Individual Attention.
All courses are intentionally limited to small class sizes so students receive individual attention during both classroom and in-car instruction.
Clear communication remains a priority throughout the course. Families always know:
What students are learning
What comes next
How progress is developing
For Parents
Learning to drive is an important milestone towards independence.
VT Drivers Ed is committed to helping students become confident, capable, and safe drivers —ready for the road ahead.
